My Bed: A Love Story

Posted by: whitegirl    in desert pals, simple pleasures

I’m snickering over the title because I just know what you all are fearing will be in this blog post.  Sillies, I may be the bearer of tmi on most days but this isn’t one of them.  Trod on without fear, my readers.  Trod on.

When we were back “home”we had a list full of items that we wanted to pick up and bring back to the desert.  Things like: measuring cups and spoons for my friends, chocolate chips, Craisins, bath towels, etc.  One of the things that we had dreamed about bringing back was our mattress.  Since the best mattress we could get here was rock hard, we naturally dreamt of our pillow topped, individual coiled mattress that melted around your body to provide the most comfortable place to rest, no matter your position.  Unfortunately, shipping the big lug of a mattress overseas wasn’t a wise economical decision, but we had to do something since my shoulder blades were close to fusing from compacting as I laid on my side each night.

He can come up with some very creative solutions, and this was no different.  Researching memory foam toppers, he found a perfect option and paired it with a feather bed topper as well as a mattress cover.  I must admit that I was a bit sceptical, but I shouldn’t have doubted.  When we returned home, we unpacked our luggage, and immediately put priority on remaking our bed.  As I watched the height of our mattress increase, and increase, and increase with pillow-y softness, I knew that my dreams were coming true:  a soft, melt around my body, sleeping experience – for the fraction of the price of our mattress in the first place, let alone the would-have-been shipping costs.

And now, I love my bed!  I love it, I love it, I love it!  I dare say that I’m getting near to needing to name it because we are just that close of friends.  What a dear, dear pal my mattress has become.

Each evening, I’m excited to return to bed (we also bought some new bamboo sheets that are oh-so-soft and luxuriously keeps the heat away) and each morning, I do grumble a tad that I have to actually leave my bed in order to take care of the tasks of the day.  My only consolation is that I’ll be able to return to that very bed when night falls once again.

Then again, I think I may just be hearing my mattress’ call as I type.  It’s nap time!  I wouldn’t want that investment to go to waste, nor squandor such a precious friendship, now, would I?
