I’ve been having trouble getting Lola to eat. It’s a rare and wonderful occasion when she eats her entire meal without being prodded, threatened, bribed, coerced, ignored, or relegated to the alone spot at the table in the kitchen. Everything that I make for lunch (our big meal, we eat little to nothing for dinner) is something that she likes and excitedly waits for her portion to be dished out. However, something magical happens between the food being in the pot on the stove to being in her plate in front of her. All of a sudden Lola doesn’t want it anymore. She’s always been a bit like this – a collector of food. Just because she wants it on her plate doesn’t necessarily mean she wants to eat it; she just wants the food close to her. Today in a moment of frustration, I said, “Lola! There are little kids in Africa that would love to eat this food. Remember those kids at the food program?” My husband happened to be passing through during my rant and said, “Umm… I think there are some kids 100 meters up or down this very hill that would love that food.”
Right. Forgot where I was.
