Click and Doh!
As if one party isn’t enough, I’m throwing a second party for Lola at school today. It’s during the break-time so it won’t be as involved as the one at home, but still there is some effort necessary. Lola was thrilled when she saw her cake in the fridge, “It has a 5!” She dressed up in her prettiest dress, pink shoes and tiara. All set for her party, I walked out with Charlie and Lola to meet their ride at the end of the street. As the gate clicked shut behind me, my stomach dropped with the realization that I didn’t have my keys, nor my phone. I gasped, my eyes widened, and I threw my hands over my gaping mouth. “I. Have. No. Keys!” Quickly my mind went into overdrive… “How would I get back inside? I could wait for my maid to come, but that’s 2 hours and then I’ll be late for getting the stuff to Lola’s school for her party.” Panic quickly set in, and then I saw movement. The guard for the construction site next to us sat up from his sleeping position on top of the makeshift shelter. I said, “I have no key!” Immediately, he jumped up and tried to scale our gate free-style. Thankfully, it didn’t work because I would have freaked at how easy it is to break into our yard. Instead, he got a ladder, jumped over to the other side and opened the gate for me. Relieved, I said thank you, and headed back inside.
Lesson learned: always have keys and phone when heading out. Also – keep an eye out for tops of ladders poking over the top of the gate.
Now, it’s time to prepare to take everything to the school for the party, including Lola’s cake.
Days until The Mister returns: 3!!
