The Festival of Love

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Friend’s Day!

I love the tradition in Europe where Valentine’s Day is not reserved just for romantic love.  It’s a day to celebrate the friends and those closest to you.  I miss the tradition of flowers.  The variety was plentiful, the colours lush, and the quality was top notch.  Here in the desert  anything living is in a constant state of desperately holding onto life.  I said to The Mister today, “I don’t really expect you to get me flowers here in the desert because the flowers are never really nice.  If we were in Europe, I would be offended that you didn’t get me flowers.  But here, not so much.”  Instead, we got take-out Indian food (butter chicken!) and I surprised The Mister with his favourite chocolates (Toffifee and Lindt).  When I was buying them, I mentioned to the lady beside me that it was “Eed AlHub” (The festival of love) today.  She asked where I was from and said, “I should move there.  It seems that you people are always having festivals!  Festival of love!  Heh.”

Happy Friend’s Day to all of you, my lovely friends on this, our day for celebrating love.  You all brighten my life and make me smile.  Is there any greater reward?  (other than chocolate, of course.  That really goes without saying.  Redundant really.  Like saying the same thing over and over.)
